Finlingo

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 18, 2026

Finlingo ("the extension") is an educational tool for learning financial literacy and preparing for DECA and FBLA competitions. This policy explains how Finlingo handles your data.

The short version

You can use Finlingo fully anonymously: your learning progress stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. Creating an account is optional and only needed to keep progress across devices, join a class, or use the teacher dashboard. If you do create an account, we collect the minimum needed to make that work (name, email, and your learning progress), store it with our backend provider, Supabase, and never sell it or use it for advertising. The finlingo.org website also counts anonymous page views so we know which pages are useful, described under Analytics below.

Using Finlingo without an account

By default, Finlingo saves your learning progress locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API. This includes:

None of this leaves your device unless you choose to create an account.

If you create an account

Finlingo offers optional student, individual, and teacher accounts (email + password, via Supabase Auth) so progress can follow you across devices, students can join a class with a teacher's join code, and teachers can see their class's progress. Creating an account sends the following to our backend (hosted by Supabase):

A teacher only ever sees this data for students in their own class, never students in other classes, and never anyone who hasn't joined with their code. Row-level security rules on our database enforce this: the database refuses the query outright, so nothing depends on the app's interface hiding it.

Password reset

If you request a password reset, we ask Supabase to send you an email with a one-time link. That link lets you set a new password; we never see or transmit your password in plain text.

What Finlingo does not do

Where account data lives

Account data (profile, class membership, progress, assignments) is stored with Supabase, our backend provider, on their hosted infrastructure. Supabase acts as our data processor and does not use your data for its own purposes. See Supabase's privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy for details. Data that doesn't require an account (see above) stays on your device via chrome.storage.local and is deleted if you remove the extension or clear its data.

Deleting your account

Finlingo doesn't yet have a self-serve "delete my account" button in the app. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, email mvkp.sai@gmail.com from the address on the account and we'll remove it.

Fonts

This site and the extension load display fonts from Google Fonts. When fonts load, your browser contacts Google's font servers, which may receive your IP address as part of that standard web request. Finlingo does not control or receive this information. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy for details.

Analytics

The finlingo.org website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, so we can tell which pages actually help people and which ones don't. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, assigns no persistent identifier, and cannot follow you to other websites. What it records is the page you viewed, the referring page, and coarse device information such as browser, operating system, and country. It never records your name, email, learning progress, or quiz answers, and this data is never joined to your Finlingo account.

Analytics runs on the website only. The Chrome extension does not include it.

Permissions we use

Classrooms and children's privacy

Finlingo's account system is designed to be set up by a teacher for use in their own classroom. Finlingo does not knowingly collect data directly from children outside of that teacher-supervised context, and does not require an account at all to use the app. Schools and teachers who create student accounts are responsible for complying with applicable student-data laws (such as FERPA or COPPA) for their students, including obtaining any consent their school or district requires.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
